Equation and Notation Guide

Equation and notation guide

The equations in Book One expose relationships inside DOT’s architecture. They do not make the model true by giving it symbols. Most functions remain abstract because DOT has not yet identified their physical implementation or operational measurement.

Notation Conventions

  • A subscript t\mathit{t} marks position in an ordered sequence. It does not establish that physical reality advances in literal discrete ticks.

  • F\mathit{F}, G\mathit{G}, U\mathit{U}, Ψ\mathit{\Psi}, Π\mathit{\Pi}, and B\mathit{\mathcal{B}} are abstract mappings. Their arguments state dependencies; their internal mechanisms remain unspecified.

  • RS denotes Reality Stream; C denotes Canvas state; P denotes Painting; D denotes pre-Intent drafts; I denotes Intent; a denotes action; and o denotes consequence.

  • RF₀ names the physical universe as modeled from within DOT. The notation does not imply that the universe is computer software.

  • Big C[T,E] denotes Big C analyzed in terms of its attributed capacities for ordered continuity (T) and unexpressed differentiation (E). The brackets do not describe multiplication or composition from prior substances.

  • Coh(I)\mathit{Coh}(\mathit{I}) and EC\mathit{E}_{\mathit{C}} are proposed constructs. They require operational definitions before the directional relationship between them can be tested.

Equation Index

Equation numbers are chapter-based. Each number links back to the equation; each model role links to the section that introduces it. The status column states what kind of claim the notation currently carries.

Epistemic Status of the Equations

Measured Ordering

The readiness-potential inequality records an experimental temporal order: reported readiness-potential onset precedes retrospectively reported conscious wanting, which precedes movement. DOT’s interpretation of that order is not part of the measurement.

Model Definitions

The Digital Organism update, Experience Loop, bundling window, Frame/Stream relationship, effective action-space, and Canvas/Painting/Character equations formalize the dependencies proposed in the text. They are bookkeeping for the model, not discovered laws.

DOT Hypotheses

Rendering Latency, the Intent–Entropy directional relationship, and the Fear-gating relation state hypotheses that could guide later operationalization. They do not report quantities that have already been measured.

A scientific equation earns authority from measurement, prediction, and successful attempts to prove it wrong—not from notation alone.
