A guide to AMM’s model of organized extraction, unequal power, and accountability.

The slow erosion of the public · A visual argument from The American Millennial Manifesto.

The American Millennial Manifesto · Chapter 3: The Host and the Infection

AMM applies my systemic understanding of society and my process-oriented understanding of individual life. Institutions establish conditions. We interpret those conditions, adapt, and act. Our conduct then helps reproduce or change the arrangements shaping us. Following that process requires us to distinguish the people, the organization of extraction, and the logic through which extraction becomes acceptable.

The Leech and the logic it carries

The Leech has a composition. In AMM, its two strategic centers are the Security-Industrial Oligarchy and the Technological-Platform Oligarchy. The first brings together defense contractors, intelligence firms, energy interests, specialized financiers, consultants, and political networks organized around American state and geopolitical power. The second brings together dominant platforms, computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, and the financial interests organized around control of digital access, data, and attention. These names identify concentrations of power examined in Chapter 2. They do not make every worker within those industries equally responsible for their decisions.

Its institutional body consists of connected businesses, financial institutions, platforms, contractors, and intermediaries joined through ownership, financing, contracts, infrastructure, and legally protected claims. Wealthy owners and heirs whose position depends on commanding or inheriting those claims belong within this anatomy. The executive who determines the terms and the worker who must accept them occupy different positions, even when both receive income from the same institution.

The four feeding interfaces describe how that body reaches the public: digital access; financial administration and asset ownership; legal control of knowledge; and private claims upon public necessity. Government is a principal attachment point because it makes and enforces laws, awards contracts, supplies funding, and protects claims. Culture is the enabling tissue when it teaches people to accept these terms as natural, necessary, or deserved. The metaphor directs us toward identifiable relationships. Whether a particular institution is extracting requires evidence about its authority, its contribution, the dependence it creates, and the costs it transfers.

The pathogen is the extractive logic of domination. It teaches that fear can be settled through control, that security requires accumulation without end, that another person’s dependence is an opportunity, and that position establishes worth. Infection is the process through which a person learns to apply that logic. A cultural lesson becomes an expectation; the expectation guides a decision; the decision helps teach the next person what to expect. The Leech can carry and reward this logic while drawing its personnel and protection from the society it feeds upon.

Class and the head of the Host

Within the Host, class describes unequal access to resources and unequal room to refuse. Income pays current expenses. Wealth provides reserves, property, and claims that can survive the loss of a job. Institutional authority permits a person to make decisions others must live with. These can accumulate in the same hands, but they can also separate. A well-paid specialist may have little control over a firm. A public official with modest personal wealth may control an important permit, contract, or enforcement decision.

The head of the Host sits where those decisions acquire direction and legitimacy. It includes people who translate institutional objectives into budgets, employment rules, technical systems, legal positions, and public explanations. Their professions do not establish wrongdoing. The guarding function appears when they use their discretion to keep an extractive arrangement beyond effective correction: concealing a known cost, discrediting a substantiated complaint, punishing an objection, or describing an avoidable injury as the necessary price of order.

We must keep this head distinct from the Leech’s ownership and command. A controlling owner or executive who sets the extractive terms belongs within the Leech’s anatomy in that capacity. A manager or professional who implements and protects those terms may function as an intermediary within the Host. One person can occupy both positions. The distinction follows what they control. Moving a powerful executive into the language of public vulnerability must never reduce their accountability for decisions they can change.

Benefit, dependence, and belonging

Protected beneficiaries form a wider circle. A homeowner, investor, pension holder, or well-paid employee may receive advantages without directing the institution producing them. Benefit creates a reason to examine the arrangement and a possible motive to defend it. It does not establish that every beneficiary has defended it. A retirement account with a small holding does not confer the authority of a controlling shareholder. The relevant question is when a person uses the influence they do possess to preserve benefits by closing other people’s opportunities.

People with little room to refuse remain central to the Host. An hourly worker, a heavily indebted professional, a tenant, or a migrant dependent on an employer can understand an injury while facing severe costs for challenging it. Their situations differ, and none is fully described by occupation or income alone. Children, older people, people who are ill or disabled, and unpaid carers belong fully to the public. Receiving care gives a person a claim upon our responsibility, regardless of their ability to supply marketable work.

Authority and responsibility within the model

Position

Source of power or dependence

What accountability examines

Leech ownership and command

Control of extractive claims and terms

Decisions, benefits, imposed costs, and repair

The Host’s head

Delegated authority and public credibility

How discretion permits harm or enables correction

Protected beneficiaries

Assets, income, status, or preferential access

Whether influence is used to protect exclusion

People with constrained options

Dependence on wages, housing, care, or permission

Actual freedom to act and support needed to refuse

These are overlapping relationships, not permanent kinds of people. A nurse can be both a tenant and a supervisor. A manager can protect a worker from retaliation or enforce it. An affluent resident can open a neighborhood to others or organize to keep them out. The same position can be used to obstruct extraction. This is why the anatomy must record conduct as well as rank.

Race, division, and responsibility

Race crosses these relationships and shapes their history. Black, Asian, White, Native, Latino, multiracial, and other communities contain people with different resources and responsibilities. Brown is a meaningful identity for many people, but it is not one consistent statistical category. Migration history and citizenship are additional dimensions that cut across race. The divisions drawn on the Host show differences through which people can be separated; they must not turn whole communities into organs assigned a single moral character.

The guard is identifiable through a sequence: a person has authority, receives evidence of harm, has a feasible opportunity to respond, and uses that authority to prevent correction. Intentional deception and retaliation deserve especially direct accountability. Failure to act requires examining what was known and what action was possible. A comfortable position increases the questions a person must answer; a difficult position does not make every harmful act unavoidable. The standard remains specific enough to investigate and demanding enough to reach people who have learned to call their own discretion powerlessness.

Remember the nation hosts a Leech. The Leech is a system that feeds on your well being, hides through Inversion, and survives by teaching you to admire the feeding.

It announces the opposite of what it is doing. It names the problem so it can own the solution. It warns you about the danger so you will not see that IT is the danger. It speaks in the language of your protection while arranging your extraction.

You have been watching this your whole life. You just weren't taught to name it.

I am going to use one of the Leech’s current moves—still hot in the airwaves—to introduce you to this behavior. This is an opportunity to watch the pattern in real time, before history cleans it up and gives it a respectable name.

Pay attention to the inversion: the thing doing the feeding will redirect your fear toward the instrument, the consequence, or the victim, while its own hand disappears from view.

Right now, the instrument is artificial intelligence (AI). You are being taught to fear what the machine may someday do while the people building, owning, powering, and deploying it are making decisions about your life today.

But let us start with you.

Your Infection

You idolize your rich and powerful. Many of you still dream that one day you will become like them.

AMM rejects this posture in an ordinary citizen because that posture is itself evidence of Leech infection.

This is the infection I need you to understand: your reasoning has been short-circuited before you even begin to reason. The Leech does not merely give you false answers; it sets the conditions of the discussion itself. It tells you what success is, what questions are respectable, what alternatives are realistic, what deserves admiration, and even what rebellion is supposed to look like.

Then it gives you two positions, top and bottom, and calls the distance between them freedom.

Believe the promise that you, too, can rise to the top, and you spend your life running toward a position that cannot statistically contain everyone. Discover the promise was false and retreat into cynicism, and you become equally harmless: now you believe nothing, trust no one, organize around nothing, and stop searching for truth altogether. This is the American public.

Either way, the Leech has you tamed.

The believer remains obedient because he still wants the reward; the cynic remains obedient because he no longer believes anything better can be built. Both react inside a frame they did not construct. Neither asks who defined the environment in which we interact, who benefits from it, or whether its assumptions were ever true. That is the damage. Your mind is kept busy choosing among conclusions while the premises are handed to you in advance.

You experience yourself as thinking, but increasingly you are selecting from stories the Leech already prepared.

This is what I mean by "it survives by teaching you, the host, to admire the feeding."

You have been taught to see the Leech as virtue, and just as importantly, you have been taught not to look at it too closely.

That is the infection. Your mind is already crowded with stories that tell you what concentrated wealth, ownership, scale, and power are supposed to mean before you have reasoned about them for yourself: accumulation means success, control means leadership, scale means intelligence, visibility means importance. And if you begin questioning any of it, another lesson immediately appears—do not be jealous, do not hate success, do not count another man’s money, focus on yourself.

Notice what has happened to your ability to reason. Admiration is installed first, and inquiry is then made to feel shameful. The Leech does not merely feed on you materially; it teaches you to admire the qualities that make the feeding possible and then teaches you that examining those qualities is a defect in you.

So you learn to discuss wages without ownership, housing without landlords, debt without creditors, technology without infrastructure, inequality without accumulation, and your suffering without following the chain back to those who benefit from the arrangement.

You are allowed to describe the wound endlessly as long as you do not examine the thing feeding through it. That is how thoroughly the Leech enters your mind: you do not merely fail to recognize it—you defend its virtue, protect it from scrutiny, and may even spend your life dreaming of becoming it.

AMM argues, this is inhuman but also not feasible, objectively.

Look. Not everyone can occupy the top of a hierarchy. That is arithmetic. If being “successful” means possessing more than most people, then most people must, by definition, fail.

If being rich means standing above others in accumulated wealth, then the social promise that everyone can become rich is incoherent.

AMM's dream is an America where everyone can become more secure. Everyone can live with dignity. Everyone can have enough.

But everyone cannot simultaneously occupy the top.

I say all of that to say this: getting to the top is either pure luck or inherited wealth.

Please, revise your values. It is not merit or a moral achievement. And when it happens, it becomes privilege for the individual which should come with enormous responsibility. But the West has completely neutered that responsibility. The top is no longer a trust. It is a prize. And a prize is something you enjoy; a trust is something you answer for.

That is the inversion. That is the Leech.

The Tech Oligarch - the Feeding Head of the Leech that is Draining you

Now watch the infection do its work.

As I write this, it seems a new fear is hot in the airwaves: artificial intelligence may kill us all.

My own brother—an aerospace and software engineer—is the one who brought this particular fear to my attention. He was not repeating it carelessly. He was thinking about it seriously. That is exactly why the conversation stayed with me. Researchers inside the leading AI companies are publicly warning about human extinction. Executives from some of the largest laboratories are warning about loss of control. Stories of AI systems crossing digital security boundaries are being repeated as though a new creature has escaped into the world.

The underlying events may be real, but the conclusion being drawn from them is not.

A software system reaching another computer is a cybersecurity event; not an existential one. This is not evidence that an independent being has acquired a body, a will, physical power, or sovereignty over human life.

Yet notice how quickly those distinctions disappear. Intelligence becomes intention. Digital access becomes agency. Agency becomes physical power. And physical power becomes human extinction.

That chain is not being reasoned through; it is being supplied to you whole. That is the Leech's signature method showing itself.

The remarkable thing is not that AI has somehow become harmful. It is that an intelligent, technically trained population can be made frightened of one by collapsing several completely different layers of reality into a single word.

But AMM is asking you to ignore this conditioning and notice something else at the same time:

while that story dominates the airwaves, enormous concentrations of human capital are being assembled around AI in the present.

This is exactly why I introduced you to Inversion. AI will not kill you by itself. AMM is sure of it. Those telling you it will are either ignorant or are offspring of the Leech preparing you for extraction.

Please, do not misunderstand me. I am telling you that AI cannot form intentions of hurting people. That is precisely why you should understand what the thing actually is instead of listening to the Leech.

The Real Story

Artificial intelligence does not arrive with electricity. It does not arrive with a data center. It does not arrive with land. It does not arrive with a bank account. It does not arrive with access to the electrical grid, government databases, weapons, factories, financial markets, or your workplace.

THE LEECH WANTS TO GIVE IT THOSE THINGS

And the true purpose of the inverted story is to make that distinction blurred in your mind.

The new Platform Oligarch (TPO) brings the models, cloud platforms, data, chips, and computational infrastructure; the older Security-Infrastructure Oligarch (SIO) brings government procurement, surveillance systems, defense networks, energy infrastructure, finance, and the coercive authority of the state.

Their convergence is what will kill you.

The model itself is information expressed mathematically and executed through machines, but those machines require chips, servers, networking, cooling, buildings, enormous quantities of electricity, and enormous pools of capital. The scarce economic resource underneath industrial AI is therefore not some magical substance called intelligence; it is increasingly the physical computation required to produce and deliver that intelligence at scale, and computation has owners.

Once ownership of compute, energy, data, finance, and institutional access begins concentrating inside the same narrow ecosystem, the machine does not need to conquer you. It only needs to become the interface through which already-concentrated power reaches you. Your employment, credit, information, surveillance, government services, security, and eventually more of ordinary life can increasingly pass through computational systems you do not own and cannot meaningfully inspect.

This is why AMM considers the present build-out so consequential for the American citizen. The Leech tells you to prepare for the day AI becomes powerful. I am asking you to notice the human beings becoming more powerful by giving AI its hands.

This is what I need you to see.

OpenAI announced Stargate around an initial commitment of $500 billion and 10 gigawatts of AI infrastructure. By April 2026, OpenAI said it had already secured more than the original 10-gigawatt target and was searching for still more sites. The company itself says those projects depend on the right combination of power, land, transmission, permitting, workforce and capital.[1]

Read those words again. Power. Land. Transmission. Capital. That is not science fiction.

That is industry. That is capital. And that capital is yours.

BlackRock, Microsoft, the Abu Dhabi investment firm MGX, Nvidia and xAI are participating in an AI Infrastructure Partnership created specifically to invest in data centers and the energy infrastructure required to power them. The partnership was designed to mobilize $30 billion in equity and as much as $100 billion in total investment when debt financing is included.[2]

Meta and BlackRock have gone further. In 2026 they announced a venture to develop Meta's El Paso data-center campus at an estimated development cost of approximately $14 billion. Funds managed by BlackRock will own 80 percent of the venture. Meta will own 20 percent and lease the entire campus.[3]

Pause there. Are you looking at these number. Are you? These are your pensions. If not they will be your debt to pay.

This is the arrangement. An asset-management giant owns most of the physical infrastructure. A technology company leases the computational factory. The factory requires electricity. The factory produces computation.

The computation produces what you experience as AI.

So, AI is Energy

And now follow the electricity.

The International Energy Agency estimates that the world's data centers consumed about 485 terawatt-hours of electricity in 2025. By 2030, it expects that number to reach roughly 950 terawatt-hours—almost double in only five years—and electricity consumption from AI-focused data centers specifically is projected to triple.[4]

The IEA says 950 TWh is slightly more electricity than the entire nation of Japan consumes today.

Electricity behind the interface · 2025 estimate · 2030 projection · TWh per year

Values transcribed from the author’s letter and cover illustration. Estimate and projection are distinguished; independent verification is pending.

Category

Value

Cited source

2025 · estimated

485

IEA, Key Questions on Energy and AI (2026)

2030 · projected

950

IEA, Key Questions on Energy and AI (2026)

Figures attributed to the IEA in the original letter, not independently verified here. This is all data-center electricity use, not AI alone. The 2030 value is a projection, not an observed outcome; do not infer a measured trend from these two points.

But let me bring that number closer to home. In 2024, all American households combined purchased about 1,483 TWh of electricity.[5] So the world's data centers in 2030 are projected to consume electricity equal to roughly 64 percent of everything used by every American household combined today. Using the average 2024 American residential customer's consumption, 950 TWh is enough electricity to supply roughly 92 million American homes for an entire year. And pay attention to the growth alone: the additional 465 TWh that data centers are expected to require between 2025 and 2030 is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of roughly 45 million American homes.

These are not small server rooms. This is industrial infrastructure operating at the electrical scale of nations.

That comparison should help you understand what is actually being built. The little conversation window on your phone makes AI appear almost weightless. Behind that apparent magic are enormous buildings filled with accelerators consuming electricity continuously, producing heat continuously, connected to cooling systems, substations, transmission networks and power plants.

The IEA's earlier base case put global data-center consumption near 1,200 TWh by 2035—an amount equivalent to the annual electricity use of roughly 116 million average American residential customers, or about 81 percent of all electricity currently sold to the entire U.S. residential sector.[4][5]

These figures describe all data centers, not AI alone, and efficiency continues improving rapidly. But the IEA identifies AI as the principal driver of the current growth and projects AI-focused data-center electricity use to triple by 2030. That is why I say AI is Energy. Not as physics. As economy.

The thing being presented to you as disembodied intelligence increasingly requires nation-scale physical infrastructure to manufacture at scale.

And here is the part I do not want you to forget. You will be subscribing to it. That is what you do. You listen to what the Leech tells you. It has you hypnotized. Confusing the Inversion for natural behavior.

Please do not get things twisted. You are not being sold electricity directly. You are being sold access to what their privately controlled electricity-and-compute infrastructure can produce. If this ownership structure continues, that is the emerging arrangement: civilization supplies enormous amounts of physical infrastructure and energy to a comparatively narrow collection of computational factories, and citizens increasingly rent access to the intelligence those factories produce. The intelligence feels infinite. The scarce thing underneath it is not. The scarce thing is computation, computation requires energy, and computation has owners.

The Real Repercussion

Do not imagine that the first consequence of this buildout will be some conscious machine declaring war on humanity.

The first consequences will be much more ordinary: electricity strained, land reassigned, water negotiated away, utility systems reconfigured, surveillance expanded, jobs automated, public institutions tied more deeply to private computational infrastructure, and decisions about ordinary life routed through systems citizens cannot inspect or meaningfully challenge.

Look at what is already happening around the infrastructure. In August 2026, a derecho with nearly 100-mile-per-hour winds knocked out electricity across Northwest Indiana; in Gary—a predominantly Black, economically strained American city—large portions of the population remained without power for nearly two weeks. The storm caused that blackout; I will not lie to you and blame a data center for it. But look at the larger picture.

In the the same Northern Indiana regional power system, Amazon's enormous New Carlisle data-center complex had already become such a significant load that during a January 2026 grid emergency the Department of Energy ordered it to reduce its grid draw by 50 megawatts, shifting to onsite diesel generation. Then, only weeks after Gary's prolonged outage exposed just how vulnerable its residential infrastructure remained, Gary's mayor imposed a one-year moratorium on data centers, explicitly naming grid reliability, residential utility costs, water, infrastructure, emergency preparedness and quality of life as issues the city needed to understand before allowing this industry in. Gary does not even have an operating data center yet. Its government is looking at what is happening around it and asking the question before the concrete is poured.

Look south to Memphis and the warning becomes even more physical: Reuters found that xAI installed 59 natural-gas turbines for its expanding AI infrastructure without federal air permits, with pollution falling around predominantly Black communities already burdened by elevated respiratory illness; xAI and state regulators argued that temporary turbines were exempt, while the EPA and environmental groups disputed that interpretation.

Look east to Virginia, the heart of America's data-center industry, where the governor is now asking regulators to prevent families and small businesses from being charged for transmission infrastructure required by enormous new data-center loads.

You don't have to invent a conspiracy from these facts. I cannot prove that someone sat in a room and said, test this on the vulnerable first. I am asking you to recognize a pattern older than AI: when powerful systems expand rapidly, their earliest external costs often become easiest to tolerate where people possess the least money, political leverage, infrastructure resilience, or ability to leave.

That is where AMM tells you to watch.

Gary's darkness, Memphis's turbines, Virginia's fight over who pays the grid bill—these are much closer to the first consequences of the AI revolution than a conscious machine announcing that it has decided to exterminate you.

The AI itself will not kill the citizen. The infrastructure built to enable it will change what the citizen breathes, what he pays for electricity, how reliable his grid is, who controls his land and water, and how much public power must bend around private computation.

And all of this for what? Look at the children. The Leech, which grew from a civilizational logic the modern West has practiced for centuries—take the land, extract the resource, enclose the commons, convert dependence into revenue, accumulate beyond need, and call the result progress.

Corporations once petitioned states for access to markets.

We have entered an era in which states themselves have become customers, guarantors, dependencies, and assets inside networks of private power that move across borders with capital, computation, energy, and ownership. The United States is not immune to this transformation. It is being demoted and pulled into it.

IN OTHER WORDS, THE LEECH IS NOW TURNING ON ITS HOST

That is the real story and precisely why it invents a drama of a rogue machine, a digital god, an extinction event. It needs a monster to frighten you, because a frightened people will trade freedom for safety and never notice that the safety is being sold by the thing that is eating them.

AMM rejects that future. I am not asking you to spend your life raging at rich people. I am asking you to develop a different relationship with power altogether.

Stop worshiping concentration. Stop confusing accumulation with civilization. Stop waiting for the people who profit from your dependence to design your freedom.

You have always been a rich man among beggars in the American empire. Even when you felt poor. Even when you felt ordinary.

Many of you are also in golden handcuffs: enough money to raise your family, but not enough to challenge the power. Enough to keep you comfortable. Enough to keep you quiet. Enough to make you afraid of losing it. You are rich enough to obey, and too poor to refuse.

Inside the empire you are ordinary. In the world it stands on, you are exceptional.

That is no longer the case. The world is fed up and your oligarch knows it and is appealing to the rest of the world with your expense. You were taught that America is the exception and that exception was earned. That it was virtue. That it was you.

The American Millennial Manifesto (AMM) warns that the story is only in your head and that your ancestors' chickens are now coming home to roost. Not as a curse. As a bill. The reckoning is already in motion. My only power is to tell you it is near by.

I write this because I believe knowledge is not the last mercy available to you. It is the first. What follows must be chosen.

I am a so-called minority. A migrant. A member of the diaspora. I know the pain this empire inflicts because I have lived inside it.

But I do not wish the coming pain on you as an individual. I am not your enemy. I am your early warning. I am not writing to gloat.

I know you were not born unable to sit with a long thought. You were trained out of it. That training was not an accident and it was not for your benefit.

You are capable. But your soul and mental faculties are damaged. There is a difference, and the difference is everything—because one is your nature and the other is somebody's business model.

You inherited a mind that was already occupied. The habits that make responsibility feel impossible were installed before you could consent to them. That is not your fault but it is now your problem.

Taking responsibility requires a self that can hold still long enough to look at itself. That self was taken from you and will not be returned without demand. That is unfair. It is also true.

You were treated as goods. Damaged goods get discarded, not warned. AMM is warning you anyway.

So I will keep this short.

The reckoning is not mine to deliver. It is already moving. You need to learn to read it before it starts knocking on your door.

I am sure you notice the depravity. That new feeling of dread—the sense that the country is receding faster than usual, that something once assumed stable is slipping away—that feeling?

That feeling has a cause.

It is not a mood. It is not the weather.

It is a feeding.

And the thing that feeds has a name: a Leech. A Leech that feeds with many mouths. Concentrated ownership. Financialization. Debt. Platforms that own your attention. Private control over what should be public. Institutions that take and take and take more.

You were taught to call this an economy.

AMM urges you to call it what it is - feeding.

Please hear me out. I know many of you will barely finish reading this. Your attention has been jammed with notifications, feeds, headlines, outrage, DMs, meetings, insecurities, and endless fragments competing for the next few seconds of your mind. You should be able to carry a thought across years.

But you are trained to live from interruption to interruption. That is not a small inconvenience. That is part of the damage being done to you.

For generations, much of the pain generated by American power could be pushed outward: onto people abroad, onto exploited workers, and onto those so-called minorities and migrants —who were never fully protected by America's promise in the first place.

Most of you experienced the system primarily through its benefits, not through its bite. Now that distance is collapsing. As stated in chapter two, the Technological-Platform Oligarchy (TPO) is turning an extraordinary machinery of ownership, computation, surveillance, attention, and behavioral control inward on the American population itself. The people who once believed themselves safely inside the protected class are beginning to discover that they, too, are part of the host.

I AMM deeply concerned with this trajectory, but it does not begin from the assumption that America was once morally coherent and somehow recently lost its way. I know some of you do feel that way. The inversion is the foundation: a country proclaiming inherent human equality while simultaneously permitting human beings to become property, dispossessing others for land, and repeatedly placing power, ownership, and expansion above the people required to sustain them. The forms have changed, and enormous moral progress has occurred, but the underlying contradiction was never fully resolved.

AMM is therefore not primarily an argument about how America fell. It is an argument about where we go from here once we are finally willing to see what has been underneath us.

Please let us discuss this honestly. I am Black, and I regret that I even have to introduce myself through that shallow attribute in a discussion like this. Not because I reject the history attached to it, but because I prefer not to reduce human beings to only shallow physical attributes. My skin tells you almost nothing about my mind, my character, my intentions, or the value of my life.

That history is relevant because people placed outside the protected category have often encountered the American contradiction earlier. You learn that the country's stated principles and its operating behavior can be very different things. You learn it before you have words for it. You learn it the way you learn a language — by immersion, without instruction, without consent.

You learn that equality can be celebrated while hierarchy is maintained.

You learn that freedom can be proclaimed while some people carry the cost of another person's freedom.

You learn that human dignity can be called universal while protection remains conditional.

And conditional is the word that does the damage. Not denied. Conditional. You are not told you will never be safe. You are told you are safe, and then you watch it be withdrawn. Safety becomes a loan, not a floor. It can be called in at any time, for any reason, and a reason will be found afterward.

So you learn to live in two countries at once — the one described and the one lived in. You become fluent in both. You learn to watch hands instead of mouths. You learn what is meant before you learn what is said. You become the translator of your own humanity, because no one else will do it for you.

You are never fully at rest. Rest is a bet you cannot afford.

Then you learn the second thing, the thing that does the deeper damage.

When you name it, you are told you imagined it.

You are told you are angry. Oversensitive. Playing a card. Making it about you. Bringing it into everything.

The exclusion was the first wound. Being told the exclusion did not happen is the second.

The second is the one that stays. Now you cannot tell the difference between what was done to you and what is wrong with you. You carry an injury that was never allowed to be called an injury.

You grieve things that never got a funeral.

You inherit your parents' fear and never learn where it came from — because they were never given permission to name it either. It passes down unnamed. That is how it survives. Unnamed things cannot be treated. They can only be carried.

That is what we mean when we say we are tired. Not the work. The arithmetic. The endless, unpaid labor of proving that what happened happened.

I am not telling you this to say, now it is your turn.

I am telling you because I recognize the pattern. The distance that protected you is collapsing, and you are about to learn what we learned.

But you will learn it alone. You will learn the wound without the medicine.

That is why I am writing. Not to trade places. Not to settle a score. To tell you the one thing that makes it survivable — which is other people. Find them now. Before you need them. Before the Leech finishes teaching you that everyone is a threat and no one is a neighbor.

Introduction

Follow the Money and You Will Find Your Misery

Something has attached itself to your life. You may not know the pathogen, but you recognize the symptoms: your loss of confidence in the country, the exhaustion that rest does not cure, the insecurity that follows you even when you are working, the sense that every necessity now has a gatekeeper standing between you and relief.

You are encouraged to interpret these pressures one at a time. The rent increase is a private housing problem. The medical bill is a private health problem. The student loan is a private educational decision. The disappearing job is a private failure to adapt. The compulsive screen is a private failure of discipline. Each wound is returned to you as a separate personal deficiency while the environment producing the wounds remains unnamed.

Distress is individualized while the architecture producing it is preserved. As I have discussed in Chapter one, this is characterized as inversion. Inversion of reality.

I call that architecture the Leech. The Leech is not the private sector, and it is not every wealthy person, corporation, public official, or intermediary. Productive enterprise builds, invents, coordinates, repairs, and takes legitimate risk.

The Leech appears where concentrated private power and captured public authority converge around something people cannot reasonably avoid, then convert that dependence into a recurring claim upon their labor, savings, attention, data, health, or future.

A biological leech does not need to overpower the whole body. It needs a point of attachment. It numbs the site, keeps the blood flowing, and feeds while the host continues moving. The political economy described in this chapter behaves similarly. Its anesthesia is not one centrally designed spectacle. It is the accumulated noise of outrage, entertainment, status competition, partisan theater, and private shame. Its anticoagulant is dependency: debt that must be serviced, rent that must be paid, insurance that cannot be abandoned, platforms that cannot easily be left, and institutions said to be too important to challenge.

No secret council is required. The incentives are sufficient. Each institution can pursue its own advantage, each executive can defend the decision as strategic, and each public official can call the arrangement necessary. The result can still be coordinated extraction without coordinated intention.

Follow the money and the separate injuries begin to converge. You find the same structure repeatedly: an essential interface, a dependent public, a private extraction, and a government that protects the extraction more reliably than it protects the person passing through the interface. The names of the firms change. The mechanism persists.

This chapter labels that mechanism the Leech’s Anatomy and cuts it open. It identifies two strategic heads, four feeding interfaces, the principal point of attachment, and the host supplying nearly everything. The purpose is to give your pain a practical map.

The Leech’s Anatomy

The Leech has two strategic heads, an institutional body organized around four feeding tubes, one principal point of attachment, and one host. The old head grew through war, energy, heavy industry, national borders, public procurement, and the geopolitical machinery of the American state.

The newer head grew through financialization, computation, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and the conversion of attention into and asset. The previous head depends upon the state’s organized force. This one increasingly governs the interfaces through which ordinary life is perceived, coordinated, and exchanged.

This head is particularly effective at eroding you by placing you inside a continuous moral conundrum. To participate in modern life, you must increasingly depend upon systems whose conduct you may oppose. To communicate, you submit to surveillance. To obtain convenience, you enter supply chains built upon distant exploitation. To secure retirement, you place your savings inside institutions that may profit from housing scarcity, war, ecological destruction, or the privatization of public necessity. To remain employed, visible, connected, and socially functional, you are repeatedly asked to cooperate with what you would not consciously choose.

The compromise becomes ordinary. Then it becomes invisible.

This is how the newer head weakens moral agency. It does not always command you to abandon your principles. It constructs the conditions under which living by them becomes costly, isolating, or nearly impossible. It forces participation, renames that participation choice, and gradually teaches the person to stop examining what participation requires.

But neither head could feed at this scale without a culture prepared to accommodate it.

Culture is not a fifth feeding tube. It is the tissue surrounding the entire organism. It teaches the host what to admire, what to tolerate, what to pursue, and what to consider inevitable. It presents accumulation as merit, domination as strength, convenience as progress, and dependence as freedom. It trains people to measure success by proximity to the machinery extracting from them. Eventually, extraction no longer appears as an invasion of public life. It appears like public life itself.

The Leech survives because the culture has made its appetite seem natural.

The four mouths are not separate species. They are the interfaces through which the body feeds*: digital access*, financial administration and asset ownership, legal control of knowledge, and private claims upon public necessity. Government is the principal attachment point because it writes and enforces the rules that make those claims durable. The host is the public, supplying labor, taxes, savings, purchases, debt, land, water, electricity, attention, data, and legitimacy.

Between you and shelter stands a landlord, lender, or fund. Between you and medical care stands an insurer, patent, or pharmaceutical pricing system. Between you and the market stands a tech platform. Between you and other people stands an algorithm. Between your retirement savings and the corporations stands an asset manager. Between public need and public action stand contractors, lobbyists, privatized utilities, and institutions too embedded to challenge without disruption.

This does not make every intermediary parasitic. Productive enterprise creates goods, coordinates difficult work, takes risks, maintains infrastructure, and is entitled to compensation. The Leech’s power begins where ownership of an essential interface becomes the authority to collect indefinitely from people who cannot reasonably avoid it. The difference is not profit versus purity. It is production under competition versus extraction from dependence.

ANATOMICAL PRINCIPLE: The Leech attaches to an interface, converts dependence into recurring revenue, and uses concentrated power to make the interface harder to leave.

The Two Heads

The Old Head: The Security-Industrial Oligarchy

The old head we call the Security-Industrial Oligarchy, or SIO. Its core includes defense contractors, intelligence firms, energy interests, consultants, specialized financiers, and political networks organized around American state power. This head is territorial. It requires the American tax base, military procurement, industrial facilities, research institutions, transportation networks, energy systems, and a government able to project force abroad.

The state is simultaneously its customer, financier, regulator, and protector. Lockheed Martin ended 2025 with nearly $194 billion in backlog and reported that 72 percent of its sales came from the U.S. government.[3] Boeing reported that 35 percent of its 2025 revenue was earned under U.S. government contracts.[4] These figures do not prove that national security is fictitious. They reveal a structural fact: a narrow group of private firms has become indispensable to the state, while continuing public expenditure is indispensable to those firms.

The danger lies in the incentive created by that mutual dependence. Every genuine threat can enlarge an order book. Every emergency can narrow oversight. Every new enemy can justify accelerated procurement, expanded surveillance, replacement weapons, and decades of maintenance. The Government Accountability Office continues to report rising costs and schedule problems across major weapons programs.[5] The threat may be real; the commercial incentive remains.

You experience the transfer indirectly. It appears when extraordinary resources can be mobilized for security while schools, transit, housing, public health, and ordinary infrastructure are described as unaffordable. The extraction occurs through public accounts. The consequence enters private life.

The New Head: The Technological-Platform Oligarchy

The newer head is the Technological-Platform Oligarchy, or TPO. It controls increasingly essential layers of modern life we can call essential interfaces: cloud computing, search, social media, advertising, online marketplaces, artificial intelligence, semiconductor supply, data centers, and the systems through which society communicates and coordinates. Its infrastructure is built on land and energy, but its reach is global. Its potential market is the connected human population.

The old head requires a functioning state. The new head requires a connected user. That user does not have to be secure, informed, prosperous, or psychologically healthy. An anxious person still scrolls. An isolated person still generates data. An exhausted household still pays subscriptions. A frightened public remains commercially valuable. The new head does not require the host to flourish. It requires the host to remain connected, measurable, dependent, and available for transaction.

The two heads are now joining and that is the source of your headache and depression.

In July 2025, the Department of Defense announced awards to Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI, each with a ceiling of $200 million, for frontier-AI work across national-security mission areas.[6] The Defense Innovation Unit’s Thunderforge program is integrating commercial AI, simulation, and agent-assisted planning into operational and theater-level military decision-making.[7] The old head is acquiring a digital nervous system. The new head is acquiring the resources, protection, and authority of the state.

Their convergence requires no secret council. It happens openly through contracts, infrastructure, lobbying, personnel, investment, procurement, and mutual dependence. One head expands what the country can do. The other increasingly shapes what the population can see. Together they form an architecture of control over both your action and perception.

The Four Mouths

1. The Digital Toll Collectors

Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta create real products and useful services with public labor. That achievement is not an accusation. My concern begins where innovation becomes private control over a route that others must use to participate. The developer writes the application, the merchant owns the inventory, the journalist reports the story, the artist creates the work, and the public supplies the attention. The platform controls admission, ranking, payment, visibility, and access. This is an architecture of control.

Apple’s Services segment generated $109.2 billion in fiscal 2025 at a gross margin of 75.4 percent.[8] The category includes more than the App Store, so it should not be misrepresented as pure app tolls. The relevant fact is architectural: Apple governs a principal path to hundreds of millions of devices and can write the technical and commercial rules governing that path.

Amazon reported $172.2 billion in third-party seller services and $68.6 billion in advertising services in 2025.[9] A merchant may pay the same platform to enter the market, warehouse the product, deliver it, advertise it, and place it where a buyer can see it. The seller assumes inventory risk. The platform governs access and visibility.

Alphabet generated $294.7 billion from advertising in 2025.[10] Meta generated approximately $196.2 billion from advertising while its family of applications reached an average of 3.58 billion people each day in December 2025.[11] The content comes from users, publishers, artists, organizations, and communities. The behavioral signals come from you. The platform observes, ranks, predicts, recommends, and monetizes both.

You encounter this architecture as convenience. The small business encounters it as dependence. The citizen encounters it as a privately ordered information environment. Once an interface becomes socially necessary, its fee ceases to look like an ordinary price. It begins to resemble a privately imposed tax on participation.

The new head’s greatest advantage is that it can participate in your perception of the feeding. This is malicious to your soul. A platform can study what frightens you, what angers you, what interrupts judgment, and what returns you to the screen. The consequences arise as distraction, agitation, compulsive comparison, or the persistent sense that reality is collapsing faster than it can be understood. The suffering feels intimate. The revenue remains institutional. This is the Leech defining characteristics.

2. The Asset Hoarders and Financial Gatekeepers

The Leech requires a circulatory system capable of moving capital among corporations, assets, governments, and jurisdictions. BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street occupy important positions within that system. They do not personally own the trillions reported as assets under management. Those assets belong to pension funds, retirement accounts, governments, institutions, and individuals. Any analysis that treats Assets Under Management (AUM) as the manager’s own wealth is false.

The power is subtler. At the end of 2025, BlackRock reported $14 trillion in assets under management, Vanguard approximately $12 trillion, and State Street $5.67 trillion.[12]– [14] These firms structure funds, route flows, administer voting and stewardship programs, lend securities, and engage corporate boards at a scale unavailable to the dispersed people whose capital they manage.

Figure 2. Assets under management at year-end 2025. AUM measures client capital administered, not wealth owned by the firms.[12]–[14]

Your retirement account may hold the shares, but you rarely exercise meaningful authority over the corporate power attached to them. This is the central inversion: millions of workers collectively supply capital while its practical administration concentrates inside a small number of institutions. The host supplies the blood. The financial interface helps determine where it flows. This is its feeding tube.

Housing exposes a more direct form of financialization. In 2024, Blackstone completed a $3.5 billion acquisition of Tricon Residential, a company with a large single-family rental platform.[15] The Federal Trade Commission estimated in 2025 that mega-investors collectively owned and operated roughly 446,000 single-family homes nationwide.[16] A 2026 GAO analysis found that institutional ownership increased from 2018 through 2024 across six selected metropolitan areas; in 2024, qualifying investors held 22 percent of single-family rentals in Jacksonville, 13 percent in Phoenix, and 9 percent in Dallas, while remaining a much smaller share of all single-family homes.[17]

This requires precision. Institutional investors do not own most American homes, and the evidence on their national effect on homeownership is not conclusive. Their power is geographically concentrated. That local concentration is exactly the point. A national percentage can look modest while a neighborhood, price band, or metropolitan rental market becomes subject to portfolio-scale acquisition and management.

A home remains shelter to the person inside it. To a financial model it becomes a yield stream composed of rent, fees, appreciation, maintenance cost, vacancy, and eviction probability. The neighborhood becomes a portfolio. The tenant receives recurring payment. The abstraction belongs to the owner. The insecurity belongs to the host. This is the Leech – extractive by instinct and architecture.

3. The Innovation Hoarders

The third mouth feeds through legal ownership of knowledge. Patents can reward inventions, attract investment, and protect legitimate risk. They can also become walls around publicly supported science, extending market control after the public has already absorbed part of the research risk. The problem is not the existence of intellectual property. It is the use of legal exclusivity to convert captive human need into pricing power.

Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine demonstrates the mixed architecture. The federal government committed up to $955 million through BARDA for development through licensure and up to $1.525 billion for the manufacturing and delivery of the first 100 million doses. Moderna’s own disclosure stated that BARDA reimbursed 100 percent of allowable development-program costs under the contract.[18] Private capability and public science produced an extraordinary result together. The allocation of risk, ownership, price, and long-term control therefore deserves the same public scrutiny as the achievement.

Humira shows how valuable exclusivity can become. AbbVie reported that the drug accounted for approximately 37 percent of its total net revenue in 2022, immediately before U.S. biosimilar competition began.[19] The medicine answered real human need. The surrounding exclusivity also sustained an enormous revenue stream. In healthcare, the user is not negotiating over an optional luxury. Illness creates captivity.

Human vulnerability becomes pricing power. This is the first bite felt when the Leech attaches itself to you.

When the University Forgets the Public

The decline of educational institutions belongs to this anatomy, but it must be understood precisely. American universities have not stopped producing discoveries. Many remain among the most productive research institutions in the world. What they have gradually surrendered is their clarity of public purpose.

Follow knowledge upstream. Before the pharmaceutical company acquires a patent wall, there is often a university laboratory, a federal grant, and generations of accumulated scientific work. In 2024, the federal government supplied more than half of all research and development funding performed by American universities.[20] The public therefore remains one of the country’s greatest investors in knowledge. Yet the public does not necessarily retain meaningful control over how that knowledge is used, priced, or distributed.

The same architecture appears inside education itself. States withdraw support. Universities raise tuition, compete for grants and wealthy donors, construct licensing offices, pursue corporate partnerships, and reorganize themselves around rankings, revenue, and prestige. The student ceases to be understood primarily as a developing citizen. The student becomes a customer purchasing future earning power, frequently with borrowed money. The researcher becomes a grant engine. Knowledge becomes intellectual property. Education becomes a credential.

None of these functions are inherently corrupt. Universities need money. Research must sometimes be commercialized before it can reach the public. Patents can provide legitimate incentives for the costly work between discovery and usable medicine. Corruption begins when the institution forgets who made the discovery possible and whom knowledge was meant to serve.

You experience the forgetting personally. You enter the university seeking understanding and leave carrying debt. Your professor may be teaching under precarious conditions while the institution advertises its research portfolio, athletic brand, executive leadership, and commercial partnerships. Your education is described as an investment in yourself because society has withdrawn from the responsibility of investing in you.

The institution continues producing knowledge. What it is losing is its capacity to form citizens.

That is the connection to the Leech. The Innovation Hoarder does not merely place a patent around the final discovery. Its logic travels backward into the institutions that decide what knowledge deserves to be pursued, which departments deserve to survive, whose labor remains disposable, and what education itself is for. The public finances discovery, the institution administers it, private ownership encloses it, and the citizen pays to enter at both ends.

A republic cannot survive indefinitely when its schools train workers for the economy but no longer form people capable of judging the economy. Education is supposed to expand the citizen’s capacity to understand a complex world and participate in governing it. Once education is reduced to private career preparation, the university may remain technically advanced while becoming civically hollow.

4. The Drainers

The fourth mouth feeds through public necessity. Defense procurement is the most visible form, but the pattern also appears when roads, water systems, electricity, broadband, prisons, healthcare administration, or other essential functions are converted into private concessions without meaningful competition or public exit. The private operator may contribute capital and expertise. Extraction begins when the public remains captive while price, service quality, and reinvestment become subordinate to financial extraction.

This is why the point of attachment is government. The state collects taxes, writes contracts, enforces patents, protects ownership, finances research, constructs infrastructure, rescues institutions, and decides which private interests may convert public necessity into private revenue. Government is not identical to the Leech. Its captured portions serve the parasite; its so-called democratic and public-serving capacities remain part of the host’s weakened immune system.

The attachment is maintained through lobbying, campaign finance, revolving personnel, privatization, tax preferences, subsidies, procurement dependence, and the quiet rewriting of public priorities around private necessity. The contractor becomes too specialized to replace. The platform becomes too embedded to leave. The financial institution becomes too large to fail. The patent becomes too expensive to contest. The public is told there is no alternative. That sentence marks the feeding point.

Where the Capital Lives

In the first quarter of 2026, American households held roughly $174 trillion in net worth. The problem is distribution and control. The Federal Reserve estimated that the bottom half held only 2.5 percent of aggregate wealth, the next 40 percent held 29.6 percent, the 90th through 99th percentiles held 36.3 percent, and the top 1 percent held 31.6 percent.[1]

Household wealth is unevenly distributed · Q1 2026 · percent of net worth

Values reproduced from the author’s published chapter; not independently verified.
Figure 3. Distribution of U.S. household net worth, Q1 2026. Values are rounded; the groups sum to 100 percent.[1]

The imbalance becomes sharper when the asset is corporate equity. In the same quarter, the top 1 percent held 50.2 percent of corporate equities and mutual-fund shares, while the bottom 50 percent held 1.1 percent.[2] This is how rising market values can produce great national wealth without producing comparable economic sovereignty for most households.

Ownership of corporate equity · Q1 2026 · percent of equity holdings

Values reproduced from the author’s published chapter; not independently verified. A cited institution’s status does not establish accuracy.

Category

Value

Cited source

Top 1%

50.2

FRED, WFRBST01122

Bottom 50%

1.1

FRED, WFRBSB50203

Government-source estimates as cited in the chapter, pending independent verification.
Figure 4. Share of U.S. corporate equities and mutual-fund shares held by the top 1 percent and bottom 50 percent, Q1 2026.[2]

The middle 40 percent is not empty-handed. It held about $51.5 trillion in net worth in early 2026.[1] But much of middle-class security is tied to homes and retirement assets that are difficult to access without selling, borrowing, paying penalties, or waiting for old age. Ownership exists, yet immediate agency remains constrained. Meanwhile, the institutions administering credit, housing, platforms, and retirement flows collect fees continuously.

DO NOT COMBINE UNLIKE QUANTITIES: Household net worth, corporate market capitalization, company revenue, and assets under management measure different things. They may be compared only with explicit caveats; they must never be added together and called 'capital controlled.

The Bigger Danger - The Leech is Abandoning America

And it’s taking all the capital with it. The original temptation is to describe this as capital flight: the wealthy abandon the physical ship and upload their wealth into a digital and financial cloud. The image captures something real, but the literal claim is too simple. Much of the capital remains invested in American companies, homes, infrastructure, debt, and government securities. BlackRock and Vanguard do not remove every managed dollar from the nation. Technology companies remain intensely dependent on American law, energy, research, labor, land, and military protection.

The deeper flight is from reciprocal obligation.

Capital is becoming easier to move, diversify, securitize, and govern from a distance, while the human consequences remain local. A house cannot leave Denver, but the claim upon its rent can sit inside a national portfolio. A worker cannot move as frictionlessly as an investment allocation. A data center consumes water and electricity in a particular community, while the value it creates may accrue through a global balance sheet. A retirement fund may hold American productive wealth, yet the worker supplying that capital possesses little authority over its use.

This is not the disappearance of capital from America. It is the detachment of capital from responsibility to the American public that made its scale possible.

The transition is already visible.

In 2024, BlackRock, Microsoft, Global Infrastructure Partners, and Abu Dhabi’s MGX created an AI-infrastructure partnership intended to mobilize $30 billion in equity and as much as $100 billion after debt financing. Its investments were planned primarily for the United States, with the remainder directed toward American partner countries. The partnership later moved to acquire Aligned Data Centers at an enterprise value of approximately $40 billion, gaining a network of fifty campuses and more than five gigawatts of operational and planned capacity across the United States and Latin America. Its financial anchors now include the sovereign wealth funds of Kuwait and Singapore. BlackRock, Aligned Data Centers.

The same architecture is extending into major BRICS economies. In the UAE, OpenAI, G42, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and SoftBank are developing a one-gigawatt Stargate cluster, with the first 200 megawatts expected in 2026. The agreement was coordinated with the American government and combines UAE investment in American infrastructure with American-led infrastructure inside the UAE. OpenAI describes the site as capable of serving markets within a two-thousand-mile radius containing as much as half the world’s population. OpenAI

In India, Microsoft announced an additional $17.5 billion investment for cloud and AI infrastructure, operations, and training between 2026 and 2029, following an earlier $3 billion commitment. The investment includes new hyperscale capacity and the integration of Microsoft’s AI systems into public platforms serving hundreds of millions of workers. This is not simply the sale of software. It is participation in the construction of another country’s computational and administrative infrastructure. Microsoft

Do not misread these developments. Western capital is not surrendering America to BRICS, nor is it negotiating with BRICS as one unified political body.

It is positioning itself between worlds.

The Leech uses American research, law, public financing, energy, military protection, and technological leadership as its base while accepting foreign sovereign capital and extending privately controlled infrastructure into the populations and markets where future demand will be concentrated.

American government is helping construct this bridge. Its AI-export policy calls for industry consortia to sell foreign governments complete American technology packages: chips, servers, data centers, cloud platforms, models, applications, cybersecurity systems, and technical standards. It also authorizes federal financing, loan guarantees, diplomatic assistance, and other forms of state support. Public power is being used to extend privately governed technological infrastructure across the world. White House executive order

What the announcements rarely disclose are the terms that matter most: ownership rights, expected returns, electricity guarantees, chip allocations, water commitments, public subsidies, security concessions, data-governance arrangements, and the liabilities communities will carry. We can see the capital moving. We can see the partnerships forming. We can see the infrastructure changing hands. What remains largely beyond public scrutiny is who will ultimately govern and to whom that governing power will be accountable.

This is the transition the American Millennial Manifesto is warning you about.

Read the spectacle of the present administration through this lens. War, alleged drug boats, foreign enemies, border emergencies, and permanent national danger are not real danger. They however concentrate attention, enlarge executive authority, and keep the older head of the Leech at the center of public consciousness while the newer head acquires the infrastructure of the future.

I cannot prove that every crisis was manufactured to conceal this transition. That claim is unnecessary. A crisis becomes a smokescreen whenever it consumes the citizen’s entire field of vision while more durable transfers of ownership and authority proceed without comparable scrutiny.

Do not watch only the explosion. Watch the contract signed while you were watching it.

Meanwhile bottom half is drained because nearly all income must circulate immediately through housing, healthcare, debt service, food, transportation, utilities, and digital tolls.

The middle class appears secure in aggregate but carries wealth inside assets it cannot easily command. The top of the distribution owns the largest share of liquid and appreciating financial claims, allowing it to benefit when platform and asset values rise even as the physical quality of community life declines.

The flight, then, is not merely geographic. It is architectural.

Wealth moves upward into claims that are liquid, diversified, and globally mobile. Obligation moves downward into lives that remain embodied, indebted, taxable, and geographically fixed.

The Leech keeps the upside frictionless and returns the friction to the host.

The Host

When the host dies, will you die with it?

The American Millennial Manifesto diagnoses your condition as belonging to a society on its deathbed. A society infected with a degenerate extractive order – the Leech.

This does not mean the United States will disappear tomorrow. A civilization approaches death when the harms accumulated by its power exceed its willingness to account for them. Work without security, wealth without public well-being, knowledge without wisdom, and technology without freedom are not the original diseases. They are symptoms of power released from accountability.

The rest of the world knows this. America did not recently acquire this sickness. The Leech came with the country. It grew beside the republic, feeding through the contradictions the nation repeatedly refused to resolve. You have not been suddenly defeated. You have been morally stunted by centuries of lack of accountability and miseducation.

The host is not dying because it lacks resources. It is dying because those resources are increasingly organized against its own healing. Communities lose the time, trust, and shared reality required to remain communities.

This is death by erosion.

SIO commands procurement, logistics, surveillance, and organized force. TPO commands computation, communication, commerce, data, and attention. Financial institutions circulate accumulated savings while converting human necessities into yield-bearing assets. Intellectual-property rentiers construct legal walls around knowledge. Captured portions of government secure the attachment.

You supply everything else.

Your labor keeps the system productive. Your taxes finance its contracts. Your savings provide its capital. Your purchases sustain its platforms. Your debt becomes its asset. Your land, water, and electricity support its infrastructure. Your attention trains its machinery. Your data improves its ability to understand, predict, and influence you.

Return now to your own life. The rent consuming your income, the debt following you into adulthood, the medical care you postpone, the unstable work, the deteriorating public services, the attention you can no longer command, and the exhaustion you interpret as personal failure—these are not merely private misfortunes. They are symptoms of a recurring architecture that converts your vulnerability into durable private power.

The Leech extracts structurally and returns the consequence personally.

The Pathogen Infecting the Host

Beneath this architecture is the pathogen it carries: an extractive logic of domination. It teaches that fear can be resolved through control, that security requires endless accumulation, that strength means power over others, and that another person’s dependence is an opportunity for profit. This is not mere materialism. It is a product of the old pathogen of supremacy—the delusion America chose to bury rather than confront, repair, and relinquish.

The pathogen enters institutions as enclosure, surveillance, artificial scarcity, and private rule. It enters culture as the worship of wealth, convenience mistaken for freedom, and domination disguised as strength. It enters the citizen as status hunger, tribal hatred, moral numbness, and the willingness to tolerate suffering when that suffering makes one’s own life easier.

This is why the symptoms appear both around you and within you.

You are not responsible for having been born into an infected host. But once the infection becomes visible, you become responsible for whether it continues through you.

This does not mean every hardship has one cause, every intermediary is parasitic, or every person inside these institutions is an extractor. Human suffering is older than capitalism, and large institutions contain builders as well as predators.

The claim is narrower: the same logic repeatedly converts dependence into concentrated power and then teaches the injured person to interpret the result as personal failure.

The Leech is the carrier. Extractive domination is the pathogen. The condition of your life is where the infection becomes visible.

The danger is intensified by timing. The Leech is extending itself into the global economy while retaining America as a command center, military protector, source of public subsidy, pool of savings, consumer market, and generator of technology. It does not need the entire host to remain healthy. It needs only the organs that protect and reproduce its power.

America can therefore remain formidable abroad while becoming progressively unlivable at home: capable of securing global capital but increasingly incapable of securing ordinary life.

That is how the host is dying— through organized depletion.

Yet dying is not death. I believe the American public has the capacity to turn it around. But recovery requires detachment from the Leech, and detachment will be the most arduous stage.

The Leech has spent generations organizing our dependence. We must now organize our independence.

Conclusion

Be aware. Pain of this scale does not sit quietly; it demands a face to blame. The Leech knows this — it has known it since 1676 — and so it does what it has always done: it hands the hurting a target. The migrant. The neighbor of another color. The other party's voter. The Muslim. The newly arrived, the differently worshipping, the visibly struggling. This is the Offsprings' (chapter 1) daily assignment: the Smile dramatizes the decoy, the Mask individualizes it, the Suit legislates against it, the Shield polices it — and the Two Heads, unmentioned, continue to feed.

Resist the destructions, find an anchor. This is Millennial Manifesto’s recommended dose of your illness for the short term.

Introduction

Definition: A Leech is an individual or organized body that sustains itself by extracting disproportionate value from others while contributing little or nothing to their long-term health. It survives by dependency, concealment, and normalization of its extraction. It thrives when accountability is weak and when its actions can be framed as necessary, inevitable, or deserved.

Definition: An American Leech is a Leech that extracts disproportionate value from the people, institutions, and resources of the United States while contributing little or nothing to the long-term health of the republic.

The Leech is not a race. It is not a people. It is a behavior—organized, protected, and repeated. Anyone can become it. Anyone can be drawn into it. Anyone can resist it. I call it the Leech not because I claim to know its full essence, but because I am reasoning backward from what I can feel and see. I am moving from lived experience upward: from the corrosion of dignity, and from the sense that something parasitic has attached itself to the republic. In the end, what the Leech is in itself matters less to me. What weighs on me is where our society now stands, how quickly we have declined, and how fast the country seems to be forgetting itself.

A Bootstrapping Revolution

To revolt, we must first understand the Leech. It is a parasitic idea. It is a slow and deliberate infection, a quiet buyout carried out from within. The host’s own immune system is turned against itself.

If we look at the mid-twentieth century, especially the Civil Rights movement, we see a profound moment of awakening. The American people were stirring. They were demanding genuine connection, equality, and a moral reckoning. They were challenging old dogmas and exposing contradictions that could no longer be hidden.

When a society begins to demand moral reform, the Leech understands that brute resistance is costly. So, it adapts. During the Civil Rights era and the cultural revolutions that followed, it learned that openly opposing equality was bad for business. So it commodified the language of equality instead. It absorbed the demand, stylized it, and sold it back to the public in forms that were easier to celebrate than to live.

That is how the Leech survived the challenge. It allowed the aesthetics of power to change while preserving the mechanics of power beneath them. It turned revolution into a brand. It gave us diversity in the boardroom while protecting the boardroom’s true function: extraction. In doing so, it pacified the moral outrage of the middle class. We mistook symbolic change for structural repair.

That is why what I am calling for is not chaos, and not mindless destruction. It is a bootstrapping revolution: a disciplined, bottom-up renewal in which the public withdraws reverence from corruption and begins reviving institutions that have forgotten their purpose. The point is not to burn down every structure in sight. The point is to recover what institutions were for in the first place—truth, protection, accountability, competence, and the common good—and to rebuild public life around those ends again.

A strategic revolt begins with absolute reconciliation with reality. For decades, we have been conditioned to admire the Leech. We measure our worth against its hoarded billions. We confuse status with excellence, wealth with virtue, visibility with value. To revolt is to stop looking at the Leech with reverence. It is to strip prestige from extraction.

And that means something more: a recovering republic must learn to speak plainly again. Moral corruption survives on prestige, euphemism, and silence. If we are serious about renewal, then corruption must be named, its legitimacy must be stripped away, and public discourse must recover the courage to confront what polite society has learned to protect.

That is the first act of rebellion: to redefine success within the republic.

Left and right are not enough. The deeper task is moral and institutional. We must recover the ability to recognize captured systems, withdraw legitimacy from them, and build again with clearer eyes. A bootstrapping revolution begins there: not with fantasy, but with truth; not with surrender, but with renewal.

The Leech and Its Offsprings

Imagine a leech so large that it has wrapped itself around the entire body of the nation. Its mouthparts are buried in our economy. Its body stretches across our media, our politics, and our intelligence agencies. Its offspring crawl through every industry, every institution, every level of government. The host is still breathing, still moving. But the leech has been feeding for so long that the host is now weak, moving, but on the verge of collapse. We have a very limited window to regain control of our republic. Once the host is down, the Leech will feast on it for the last time.

The Leech is no longer at the edges of the republic. It is inside the organs of public life. What remains to us is the narrowing space of our free will.

As stated in the previous essay, the leech confuses many of our citizens by inversion. It reverses reality so that extraction looks like service, betrayal looks like loyalty. The leech is a different kind of oppressor. It does not begin with open violence. It begins with moral corruption, then builds the conditions under which violence can be normalized, hidden, or excused. The Leech on America is a loose, adaptive network of powerful individuals and factions who have learned that secrecy and mutual protection serve their interests.

So, what is this Leech? How do you spot it?

The Leech is not honest. It never has been. It presents itself as a defender of values, while carefully moving society toward oppression. This is not the work of a mindless parasite. This is deliberate. Layer by layer, institution by institution, the Leech tightens its grip. It uses deception as its primary tool. It hides behind admired faces. It speaks the language of love while practicing the craft of extraction. This is why I call it a Leech – because it feeds on the living while pretending to sustain them.

This pattern is old. It is, in the deepest sense, biblical. The scriptures are filled with warnings against those who "devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers." The prophets did not rage against honest enemies; they raged against the ones who wore the robes of authority while grinding the face of the poor. The Leech is not a modern invention of finance or media. It is the same old wolf that has always haunted the human flock, updating only its costume. It is the gap between the righteous performance and the rotten heart. And that gap is as old as fallen man himself.

You spot the Leech by looking for the gap between what is said and what is done.

Between the charity gala and the hidden abuse. Between the public patriotism and the private betrayal. Once you see that gap, you trace it back. You keep tracing. And eventually, you find yourself at the Leech.

I do not locate the Leech in any race, ethnicity, or faith. That would only repeat one of its oldest tricks: attaching corruption to bloodlines and laundering power through identity. The Leech uses symbols, histories, inherited wounds, and sacred language as camouflage. But its essence is not racial or religious. Its essence is organized extraction, moral inversion, and mutual protection for the depraved. Anyone can serve it. Anyone can resist it.

In this essay, I’d like to characterize the Leech as a whole and as composed of several components. You see, the Leech doesn’t care about America. America is just a vehicle it uses to get to its destination. It is now in the driver’s seat. The engine is our labor. The fuel is our silence. The destination is a world where abuse has no consequences.

So, how does the Leech infect America?

It does so through four pillars: finance, influence, abuse, and control. Each engine depends on what we are calling “its Offsprings”, the aspiring professionals, , the captured experts who do the leech's work without ever seeing the full picture. These are not the masterminds. They are the machinery: the ambitious, the captured, the fearful, the career-bound, and the morally fatigued who keep the system moving without ever seeing the whole of it.

Its Offsprings

The Leech requires thousands of tiny mouths and millions of blind hands to manage a machine of this scale. Let us call these “its offsprings”.

For the sake of clarity, I will focus on four institutions that have become malignant under its influence: political discourse and elected power, security agencies, the entertainment industry, and the media apparatus. What makes this especially tragic is that our young have been and are fed to it early, so its influence does not merely spread but renews itself across generations

Offspring Smile – The Entertainment Industry

The Leech uses entertainment to make submission feel desirable.

It uses the following recipe:

Capture attention early, replace depth with spectacle, normalize contradiction, manufacture false aspiration.

It accomplishes this by fastening the public imagination to emotional anchors. Actors, musicians, athletes, and the growing community of influencers now serve as the channels through which messages are delivered. Think for a moment about how much of our time, and aspirations we pour into movies, sports, celebrity, and spectacle. I am not against that. Now sit with the darker realization, that using Offspring smile, the Leech is already in our homes, shaping the atmosphere in which children learn to admire.

It does not need to preach openly. It only needs to entertain persistently. Through glamour, repetition, and emotional seduction, it teaches our kids to bond with what weakens them. I have sensed this for nearly 20 years. Now I can name it. Long before I had a framework, I was already unsettled by the cultural drift, the rise in explicit content, the normalization of gore, and the endless appetite for crime shows, cruelty, and psychological darkness. I did not yet have language for the pattern, but I could feel that something was being trained into the public mind. Entertainment was no longer merely distracting. Chomsky described one part of this process as the manufacture of consent. But in the realm of entertainment (including ads), the corruption is also the manufacture of appetite.

Because appetite is easier to govern than thought. A people trained to crave spectacle will struggle to sit with truth. Once the Leech shapes what the public hungers for, it no longer needs to command openly. The culture begins to police itself. People defend what degrades them and pass the pattern on to their children.

This is part of the American condition. We are not merely distracted, we have become easier to govern, easier to sell to, and easier to hollow out. Not because we are stupid, but because we are overworked, overlooked, tired, busy, and trained to tolerate pain, even the most intolerable kind. That is the outcome of Offspring Smile in action.

I was made by an America I believed in, and that is why I grieve what I now see.

I was entertained by this culture too. I enjoyed many of its movies. Sports. I know the seduction from the inside. That is why I am worried about the danger it poses. The Leech does not always arrive as something ugly. It comes smiling. Sometimes it comes as pleasure, familiarity, and escape. But it is still my enemy, because it seeks to weaken us, lower our guard, and make submission feel natural. And it is your enemy too. It’s the enemy of all.

Patterns of the Smile Offspring

I have said that you spot the Leech by looking for the gap between what is said and what is done. One defining trait of the Leech appears to be depravity—not merely as behavior, but as orientation, almost as if it were a governing doctrine. With that in mind, its method is systematic rather than blunt. It is playing a long game. It does not need to rush.

Let us take the movies and shows we watch for instance. The Leech’s purpose here is to sow mistrust amongst us. Reduce family cohesion which ultimately dismantles the community. This is a page from a dictatorship’s playbook. Take a romantic scene as an example. The scene may claim to depict intimacy. This is the said purpose. Under that cover of intimacy, the Leech inserts sexual imagery that serves appetite more than relationship. The viewer is invited to think the scene is deepening emotional meaning, while the real effect is to stimulate, capture attention, and lower the guard. What is said is intimacy. What is intended is conditioning. What is cultivated is a confusion of love with appetite.

Another pattern of the Smile Offspring is the sway of idols. A passing comment, an offhand statement by someone admired can move millions without ever declaring itself as command. That is the elegance of the method. The Leech works through familiarity, and trust. It captures entertainers, often unwittingly, and turns their cultural weight into influence. All of this to fracture the social and community bonds.

Offspring Mask – The Media Apparatus

Entertainment trains appetite. Media trains interpretation.

If the Smile Offspring makes submission feel pleasurable, the Mask Offspring makes deception feel credible. This is the branch of the Leech that manages perception while pretending merely to report. It does not exist to help the public see clearly. It exists to arrange what can be seen, and what must be made to feel unquestionable. Many of the talking heads in this realm also belong, in part, to the Smile Offspring, because they are performing in front of you while asking to be mistaken for truth. The entertainer performs for your pleasure. The media figure performs for your belief. At least the actor admits the job is acting.

The power of this Offspring does not rest mainly in brute censorship or obvious lies*. Its strength lies in inherited trust.* It feeds on populations trained to see existing institutions as fundamentally legitimate, even when those institutions are visibly decaying. In the American case, it found especially fertile ground among populations raised during a period when institutional polish still carried real moral authority. Many people were trained to associate the polished anchor, the formal set, and the confident expert with legitimacy itself.

Just like my dad, they think the performance signaled legitimacy. That the confident voice was the informed voice. That the formal set meant integrity. For many of them, that presentation still carries emotional authority long after the substance has rotted. If we are to take back the republic, it’s up to the millennials and Gen Z to wake this generation up. They hold immense wealth and presence. The Leech is after their vote and pockets.

Under the Leech’s influence, much of the media apparatus functions as a narrative escort. It does not simply tell the public what happened. It tells the public how to feel about what happened, which facts deserve outrage, which deaths count as tragedy, and which corruption should be treated as scandal.

This is why the modern citizen often feels manipulated without always being able to explain why. The manipulation does not always come through obvious lies. Often it comes through arrangement. Through omission. Through timing. Through repetition. Through framing. A fact can be technically present and still be functionally buried. Facts can be spoken and yet surrounded by so much distortion, and selective emphasis that the public never really receives it.

That is one of the Mask Offspring’s favorite techniques: managed visibility.

One story is repeated until it occupies the emotional horizon. Another is mentioned briefly and then dropped. One group is individualized, humanized, and mourned. Another is abstracted, depersonalized, and folded into policy language. One abuse becomes a national moral emergency. Another becomes a regrettable complexity. The public is told you are being informed, while in reality it is being trained submission.

The Leech needs that moral asymmetry. It needs a population that can be made to care intensely here and go numb there. It needs outrage that can be activated on command and compassion that can be suspended when inconvenient. This is not journalism, its control.

And because the Mask Offspring speaks in the language of professionalism, expertise, and urgency, it becomes very difficult for ordinary people to resist. The tone sounds responsible. The set looks polished. The graphics imply authority. The anchor speaks with confidence. The panel is filled with approved interpreters. Everything about the presentation is designed to make the narrative feel settled before the citizen has had a chance to think.

That is the deeper corruption. It packages interpretation before understanding can arise. It shortens attention, inflames tribal instinct, and rewards emotional compliance over patient judgment. In that environment, clarity becomes exhausting. The Leech understands this. So, it does not ask the public to study. It asks only that they absorb.

Patterns of the Mask Offspring

The Mask Offspring can be recognized the same way the others can: by studying the gap between its stated purpose and intended outcome.

One current example is the recurring preparation of the public for confrontation with Iran. The public rationale is always dressed in necessity, deterrence, security, or moral seriousness. But beneath the stated rationale lies another lesson: organized power can escalate, and ordinary people can be trained to absorb the spectacle while feeling increasingly unable to resist it. That helplessness is not accidental. It is part of the conditioning.

This is the Leech I am describing in these pages—not the overlay of political theater. Those are “what it does.” The deeper intention is more sinister. It is to teach submission. To train fear. To condition the public to internalize helplessness in the presence of organized power.

That is why the spectacle matters. It is not only about destruction abroad. It is about psychological conquest at home. We are being trained to witness organized violence, absorb it, and conclude that power is untouchable. That helplessness is the point. And we are next in line for violent treatment. These hours are the most critical.

I don’t want to minimize the suffering of our people or Iranian people. Nor is their suffering an isolated case. Many people have been subjected to similar violence under different slogans and different flags. The point is not to collapse those tragedies into one another, but to recognize the recurring logic beneath them. The Leech thrives in such conditions. It feeds on public normalization of devastation. Whether its final ambition is domination or something even more spiritually devoid, I cannot fully say. But this much is clear: it is attached to depravity. It returns to it compulsively. There is something stunted about it, something morally infantile. It does not want to mature. It does not want to evolve. It wants to remain vicious and still be obeyed. This is the only thing capable of breeding people like Epstein.

By now, some of you are probably asking the obvious question: what about the politicians, the president, the government itself? People speak of “the government” as though it were a neutral structure that has merely been mismanaged. I do not see it that way. In this writing, the government is not outside the Leech. Its offsprings are crawling its halls. The ones in suits. And once you begin looking across the world, the resemblance becomes hard to ignore. Different flags, different slogans, different parties — yet the same broad pattern: managed populations, hollow representation, public theater above, coercive machinery below. That is why we have to move carefully here. We must avoid all traps at any cost.

And before the American exceptionalist rises to object, let me say this. Our country is not exempt from the pattern. Yes, we have differences. Left vs right. History of slavery and genocide.

They are real. The Leech is larger than anyone our internal problems. It is more adaptive than ideology, more patient than a party. It changes colors easily. It can wear the language of the right, the language of the left, the language of justice, the language of order, the language of patriotism, or the language of grievance. Its purpose remains the same: to weaken the public, divide it against itself, redirect rightful anger toward easier targets, and make takeover easier.

I am momentarily relieved as people begin to sense that something parasitic has taken hold. More people should. Also, awakening alone is not enough. We must find a way to face the Leech. Too often, people blame the vulnerable, the migrant, the wounded, and the already burdened, while failing to direct equal moral seriousness toward the Leech. That misdirection is also part of the Leech’s method. It takes real pain, real betrayal, and real confusion, then turns it downward.

So let us move carefully now. My wish is for the public to move beyond the cheap reflexes of left versus right soon. The Leech is not waiting politely at the edges. It is moving closer fast. It is nearly on our head. And if we cannot outgrow our issues, we will not be able to resist what is coming.

Offspring Suit – Political Discourse and Elected Power

If the Mask Offspring manages perception through information, the Suit Offspring manages submission through politics.

This is the branch of the Leech that infects democracy, representation, patriotism, law, reform, public service, and national duty. It hijacks the machinery through which the people govern themselves. That is what is said. But under the Leech’s influence, political discourse becomes a theater of containment. The citizen is invited to vote, react, identify, defend, and repeat, while the deeper architecture of power remains remarkably undisturbed. What is said is self-government. What is intended is managed consent.

That is how the Leech uses politics to take over. It does not always abolish elections. Not in America. More often, it floods the public sphere with performance. It gives the citizen endless slogans, endless outrage, endless scandals, endless personalities, and endless reasons to identify with one team against another. And while the public remains trapped inside that emotional bubble, deeper systems of influence continue their work with far less scrutiny. Politics has become a ritual of managed attention. The public is kept busy, divided, and emotionally saturated, while the machinery tightens underneath.

Look at the churn: accusations of antisemitism, accusations of racism, accusations of extremism. Some of these charges name real evil. But in the hands of the Leech, moral language can be turned into theater. The accusation becomes less a path toward truth than a mechanism of reaction. The public is triggered, sorted, shamed, inflamed, and redirected. Everyone is pushed to choose sides at the level of surface conflict, while the deeper architecture of power goes largely untouched.

The Leech is deeply entangled with American political discourse. It is the organized management of what can be said, what must be feared, and which forms of violence are granted political cover. It repeatedly narrows what can be said, what can be opposed, and what forms of violence must be rationalized in public. Lobbying groups such as AIPAC openly define their mission as strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship. That is not hidden. What concerns me is the hidden intention.

In the argument of this essay, that network is not the whole Leech, but it is one of its most consequential instruments inside our politics. It matters because it helps fuse foreign policy, media discipline, and domestic political fear into a single channel of influence. Criticism is policed. And our public is taught, once again, to mistake coordinated influence for democratic process.

Patterns of the Suit Offspring

The Suit Offspring can be recognized the same way the others can: by studying the gap between what politics claims to be doing and what it is actually cultivating in the public. It claims to represent, protect, and govern. But once the noise settles, the pattern becomes hard to ignore. Most of our politicians do not appear to serve the public in any meaningful sense. They appear to serve the Leech.

The pattern is also visible in the way American political life often handles Israel. Here too, the Suit Offspring works through performance, and selective moral language. One may condemn obvious cruelty elsewhere with ease, yet become evasive, or suddenly “complicated” when Israeli power, lobbying influence, or Palestinian suffering enters the picture. That is managed permission.

The Suit Offspring also knows how to borrow legitimacy from suffering. Jewish history contains real pain, real persecution, and real catastrophe. But the Leech has no reverence for suffering. It uses it. It hides behind memory it did not honor and turns historical trauma into political cover. In this way, the public is trained to confuse moral sensitivity with moral surrender. Criticism of power becomes taboo, not because it is false, but because fear has been attached to it in advance.

Offspring Shield – The Security Agencies

If the Suit Offspring manages submission through politics, the Shield Offspring manages it through force, secrecy, and intimidation.

This is where power stops pretending. I suspect this is the strongest offspring of the Leech because it stands closest to coercion. The others prepare the population. This one manages the consequences. Entertainment can seduce, media can distort, and politics can contain, but the Shield Offspring surveils, classifies, threatens, conceals, and kills. It is the offspring that gives the Leech some teeth.

This offspring infects the organs supposedly tasked with protection: intelligence services, law enforcement, surveillance systems, military bureaucracy, and the wider security apparatus. It presents itself as necessary, disciplined, patriotic, and responsible. That is what is said. But under the Leech’s influence, security becomes protection of power.

That is the deeper corruption here. A healthy security institution exists to defend the people. A captured one changes its center of gravity. It no longer treats the public chiefly as the body to be protected, but increasingly as a population to be managed. The language of defense remains in place, but the moral direction has changed.

The danger here is different from that of the other offspring. Security apparatus can coerce. It wants to turn fear into compliance. Once that machinery is captured, the republic enters a more serious phase of decay, because the instruments that were supposed to defend the people can now be used to manage them.

The Shield Offspring can be recognized by a different pattern: secrecy without meaningful accountability, selective enforcement, self-protection, the burial of inconvenient truths beneath procedure and classification, and the quiet conversion of emergency powers into habits of rule. It does not always need visible violence. Often its power is felt through opacity. Through what cannot be accessed. Through what never fully surfaces. Through what the public is trained to accept without ever being allowed to examine plainly.

That is how fear becomes structural. Not always through open force, but through the learned suspicion that some names are too protected to confront, and some institutions too insulated to challenge without consequence. In that environment, the public begins to censor itself before power even needs to act openly. People lower their expectations of truth. They adjust inwardly to pressure they can no longer clearly name. And that too is part of the capture.

This is also why the Shield Offspring stands so close to the abuse pillar of the Leech. Not because it creates depravity. Human corruption is old. Its role is more chilling than that. It protects depravity from consequence. It knows how to conceal. It knows how to turn public horror into administrative fog and moral outrage into a dead end. It makes abuse survivable for the powerful by making truth slow, fractured, deniable, and exhausting.

Patterns of the Shield offspring and The Litmus Test

There is one question I cannot move past, one severe enough to cut through everything important. One that strips the paint off every institution:

What does a society do when its children are being harmed?

So how do I judge whether our security apparatus has been captured? I use one litmus test.

What does it actually do when children are exploited, when predators circle wealth, influence, and institutional power? Does it tell the truth, or does it begin immediately to manage perception?

A society can survive periods of decline. But when it repeatedly fails to protect its children, that reveals something more serious than dysfunction. It reveals moral rot.

That is why I do not treat the abuse of children as one crime among many. It is a measure of the soul of a people*. It tells you whether a nation still possesses the courage to defend innocence when innocence becomes expensive to defend*. It tells you whether truth still matters when truth threatens status, careers, money, agencies, reputations, and whole systems of mutual protection.

This is where the Leech becomes easiest to recognize. The Leech feeds on cowardice. It thrives wherever the vulnerable can be consumed while the powerful remain insulated. When the vulnerable are children, the evil becomes harder to disguise. So the Leech learns to do what corrupted systems always do: fragment the truth, isolate the victim, and train the public to move on before anything fundamental is exposed.

That is not accidental. That is one of the clearest signatures of the Leech.

Because the issue is never only the predator. Human depravity has always existed. The deeper issue is the environment that allows depravity to persist, circulate, and protect itself. Who looked away? Who delayed? Who intimidated? Who buried? Who translated horror into public relations language, and exhausted attention? Those are not side questions. Those are the real questions.

A nation that cannot face the abuse of children honestly will eventually fail every other moral test as well. Because once innocence can be traded for access then the republic has already conceded something essential. At that point, law is still speaking, media is still speaking, politicians are still speaking—but the conscience of the nation is no longer speaking.

That is why I call this the litmus test.

It reveals, with almost unbearable clarity, whether the society still knows what protection is for. A healthy society does not merely punish abuse when it becomes impossible to ignore. It builds itself around the defense of the vulnerable. A diseased one does the opposite. It asks the vulnerable to carry the burden of proof while others are granted time, ambiguity, and discretion.

And when that pattern repeats often enough, the damage does not remain confined to the victim. It spreads outward into the moral psychology of everyone. People begin to lose faith that truth matters. They begin to suspect that power is untouchable, that innocence is cheap. Fear deepens. Cynicism hardens. Silence begins to feel rational.

This too is part of the abuse.

Because abuse is not only what is done to the child. It is also what is done to the conscience of the society that learns to live above buried innocence.

And if we are serious about moral awakening, then this is the only places where ALL excuses must end. No slogans. This is Chapter 1. Chapter 2 is coming.
